XPANCEO
XPANCEO, a deep-tech company developing the next generation of computing via smart contact lenses, revealed the latest prototype of its** Smart Contact Lens for AR Vision** at AWE Europe 2024. This new lens offers not only superior image quality but also a significantly expanded field of view, increasing from 10 degrees to 30 degrees. This provides users with a broader, more immersive augmented reality experience. In addition to supporting static images, the lens also enables dynamic imagery, allowing users to interact with moving visuals in real time. Despite these advancements, the lens remains highly energy-efficient, with power consumption estimated between 1-3 microwatts—100 to 300 times lower than comparable AR glasses.
Conference attendees experienced a glimpse of the future by simply holding the lens close to their eyes. This enabled them to look through the lens while holding the setup, witnessing dynamic images come to life and changing angles to compare the visuals against various real-time surroundings. This remarkable experience highlighted the lens’s capabilities and the incredible leap it represents for the next generation of AR technology.
In addition to the new prototype, XPANCEO showcased several previously introduced lenses. The Smart Contact Lens for Data Reading demonstrated wireless data transmission capabilities integrated directly into the lens, enabling real-time interaction with data and the ability to receive information, such as biometric data, from embedded sensors. The Smart Contact Lens with Transparent Electronics featured a one-pixel display made possible by XPANCEO’s patent-pending ultra-thin transparent and flexible gold conductors.
XPANCEO also highlighted its Contact Lens with Intraocular Pressure (IOP) Sensor, a significant advancement in healthcare technology. This lens, which boasts continuous health monitoring capabilities and interacts directly with the eye’s surface, has been tested on a custom eye model and demonstrated a 50% improvement in the effectiveness of measuring intraocular pressure, an important parameter for the early detection of glaucoma.
XPANCEO’s participation at AWE Europe 2024 reflects its ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of wearable technology. The company continues to lead innovation in smart contact lenses, focusing on real-world applications in wearable technology, XR, healthcare, and fintech. XPANCEO is on track to unveil a fully functional smart contact lens prototype by the end of 2026.
